'Gently Cooked' Didn't Stop the Plastic: What the BeefiBowls Recall Means for Your Dog
Fromm's Bonnihill Farms pulled 300 cases of frozen beef dog food over plastic fragments. Here's the exact lot to check, what swallowed plastic can do, and the symptoms that mean a vet call.

Premium, small-batch, “gently cooked” frozen food carries an unspoken promise: this is the careful stuff. So it’s a useful reminder that a factory defect doesn’t care what tier you buy. Fromm Family Foods, which makes the Bonnihill Farms line, voluntarily recalled 300 cases of its BeefiBowls Beef Recipe after customers reported finding plastic inside the food.
Check this exact lot
The recall covers one production lot of Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Beef Recipe gently cooked frozen dog food, sold in 16-ounce chubs. The details to match against what’s in your freezer: the UPC (printed below the barcode) is 072705135004, and the marking reads Best By 12/25/2026 B01. If your package matches, don’t feed it.
Distribution ran through neighborhood pet stores across a wide swath of the country, Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, plus Ontario, Canada. The affected product has been pulled from shelves, and the FDA advises returning a recalled package to the retailer where you bought it. No illnesses or injuries were reported at the time of the recall.
What plastic can actually do
The hazard isn’t theoretical, but it’s also not usually catastrophic. Swallowed plastic fragments can irritate a dog’s gut and, in larger pieces or amounts, cause a physical obstruction, which is the serious end of the spectrum. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, and stomach discomfort. A single small shard passed by a big dog may cause nothing at all; a jagged piece or a blockage in a small dog is a different story.
The thing that turns a nuisance into an emergency is obstruction. If a dog who ate a recalled food starts vomiting repeatedly, goes off food, or seems painful in the belly, don’t wait it out at home, because a gut blockage only gets harder to fix the longer it sits.
If your dog ate from the recalled lot and shows any of those signs, the FDA’s guidance is to get to a veterinarian promptly. If your dog ate it and seems completely fine, hold onto the packaging, stop feeding it, and keep an eye out for the next day or two.
What’s new since the recall
Fromm’s action began as a voluntary recall after consumer complaints about plastic fragments, and it stayed limited to that single lot. In the period after the initial announcement, no reports of illness or injury emerged, and the FDA subsequently classified the recall as complete. That’s the reassuring update, but it doesn’t change the homework: the point of a recall is to get the flagged product out of freezers before anything happens, so checking that UPC and best-by code against your own supply is still the move.
This piece covers a food-safety and health topic. It’s general information, not a diagnosis. If your dog ate a recalled product and seems unwell, contact your veterinarian.
