The Times

Editorial standards

Last updated October 2026

The Pet Times exists to be the source you trust when it matters. These are the standards that earn that trust, and how to hold us to them.

How we review

Every article on The Pet Times is reviewed by a named, credentialed veterinary expert before publication, and that reviewer is credited on the story. Dr. Amara Solis, DVM, DACVD, is our lead reviewer for health content. Our review team, Dr. Priya Nair, Dr. Ravi Mehta, Dr. Mara Chen, Dr. Lena Park and Dr. Nina Kohl, shares review of the rest of our coverage. When an article is written by one of our veterinarians, it is reviewed by a different member of the team. Reviews are substantive: our experts can and do send drafts back.

Sourcing and evidence

We prioritize peer-reviewed research, guidance from veterinary bodies, and primary documents over secondhand reporting. Where the evidence is thin or contested, we say so plainly rather than manufacturing false certainty. We do not present anecdote as data.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change. Significant corrections are labeled on the article. Email [email protected] and we will act quickly.

Independence and affiliate disclosure

Our recommendations are made independently of any commercial relationship. We test products ourselves. Some links to retailers are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy, but that never influences whether a product is recommended, and a verdict is never for sale.

Not a substitute for your vet

Our guidance is educational. It does not replace an examination by your own veterinarian, who knows your animal. For urgent symptoms, contact a vet or emergency clinic right away.
